Parents, teachers, caregivers, and mental health professionals of children aged 3 – 6 years love using the Feelings and Dealings card game to develop empathy. This therapeutic tool develops social and emotional intelligence through fun and engaging play. Speaking of play, we’ve designed 8 ways to play this game: 3 games for educational play and 5 games for therapeutic play!
ABOUT THE CREATOR
The game was created by Camille Childs (me!), the founder of GameOnFamily.com, whose corporate career started in licensing at Jeopardy & Wheel of Fortune. I most recently worked at Netflix for 5 years, all of which fueled my love of games and technology. The Feelings and Dealings card game is the first game of several from Game On Family.
WHY FEELINGS AND DEALINGS?
We’ve got 11 great reasons:
-
Teaches children aged 3 to 6 years soft skills such as how to identify emotions through facial expressions, body language, and in social contexts; however, adults often expand their emotional vocabulary too!
-
Engages players via a fun and therapeutic card game to discover 24 nuanced emotions including the basics (afraid, angry, happy, etc.) to modern, complex emotions (distracted, overwhelmed, etc.).
-
Encourages conversation and communication through play… think of it as Play Therapy!
-
Displays 48 Colorful, Illustrated Cards including 24 Individual Pose Cards that develop emotional intelligence and 24 Social Scene Cards that develop social intelligence.
-
24 Individual Pose Cards: Each Individual Pose card shows a child expressing an emotion through nonverbal cues such as facial expression and body language.
-
24 Social Scene Cards: Each Social Scene card conveys an emotion in a realistic social situation involving family, friends, and pets in a variety of age appropriate settings.
-
Builds diversity awareness: Our range of characters shows a diverse mix of ages, ethnicities, and abilities.
-
Supports emotional health and connection: Kids discover a wide range of emotions which builds empathy, self and other awareness, interpersonal connection, and models ways to express needs.
-
Teaches Empathy: When you have empathy, you can better understand another person’s emotions and actions. Empathy broadens our perspective, improves communication, better enables collaboration, and deepens relationships.
-
Suggests 8 ways to play via our detailed instructional sheet. Choose a game depending on intent or goal.
-
Aids Parents, Therapists, Educators and Caregivers: Mental Health Professionals may use cards as a therapeutic tool, teachers may use as an educational tool to increase empathy and awareness, and parents may use as conversational cards to connect with their children or simply as a fun game to improve social skills.
